2008 NHL Playoffs - Eastern Conference Finals: Penguins vs. Flyers Game 1 REVIEW

Penguins win first contest against Flyers 4-2.
Sorry for posting this so late, Grand Theft Auto IV seems to be eating away my time.
Like the previous series in which the Flyers played against the Canadiens, this game was a bit weird. I don't quite know how to explain it. It was just a bit off. There were five goals in the first period alone. The rest of the game was marked by bad passes, giveaways, interceptions, etc.
Petr Sykora scored the first goal of the game off a nifty little backhand. He waited until Biron made the first move before putting the puck above the netminder's shoulder. Two minutes later, Mike Richards equalized the score with a wrap-around. Fleury was way out of position on that one. The Flyers took the lead with Richards' second of the night. After a mad scramble in front of Fleury's net in which no one could control the puck, Richards came in and calmly shot the puck in an open net. From then on, the Philadelphia players tried repeatedly to crash Fleury's net but the Penguins' D stood tall.
As usual, Malkin and Crosby took control of the game in the second half of the first period. Crosby put the score at 2-2 from a pass by Marian Hossa. Once again, the goaltender didn't look good in the sequence. Indeed, Biron had left his net to intercept a dump-in. Then, he sent the puck directly to Hossa who quickly found Crosby alone in the slot. Malkin gave the lead back to the Penguins with seven seconds left to the first period.
The lone goal in the second period was scored by Malkin once again. While the Penguins were short-handed, Sergei Gonchar sent a pass to Malkin who was completely alone on the Flyers' blue line. The Russian forward had all his time in front of Biron. However, instead of deking like most players do, he fired a powerful rocket right at Biron. Of course, Biron didn't stop it. And the game was pretty much over right then and there. The third period was mostly a war of trenches. A lot of things have been said about this series but I think that things will really start to heat up in the next game.
