2008 NHL Stanley Cup Finals: Detroit Red Wings vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Game 3 REVIEW
May 29th 2008 21:14
Penguins defeat Red Wings 3-2 to put the series at 2-1.
Why is it that every time I have to be somewhere else instead of watching hockey, the game that I miss turns out to be the most exciting match of the week? Like I said in the preview, I couldn't watch the game last night, missed the rerun this morning, so here are my impressions from watching the highlights.
- Where Crosby goes, the Penguins go. Sidney has been the hardest working member of his team in this series. Liberated from Lidstrom's coverage, Sid was rewarded with two goals last night which gave his team a 2-0 lead.
- The Pens were able to play their game last night, entering the O-zone with speed. It seems like they had more space to work with than previous games. I don't know if it's because the Wings took their feet off of the pedal for a game or if it's because Michel Therrien effectively used his last change to have the match-ups he wanted. Either way, great effort by the Pens.
- Fleury was solid in front of the net. If it wasn't for him, I'm pretty sure the Wings would have won that one.
- I must be turning psychic or something. In my preview, I said that if the Pens' attack wakes up, so must Zetterberg-Datsyuk to help out their team offensively. Well, guess what? Both players were held off the scoresheet and the Penguins got the win.
- I have to give an honorable mention to Brooks Orpik. The Pens' defenseman came out huge in a shift where he made four consecutive hits in a 15 seconds span. Simply amazing.
The Red Wings have no reason to panic yet. They just have to tighten up, that's all. Next game is Saturday again at the Igloo. There's enough time for the Wings to regroup and figure out what they did wrong while the Pens can focus on what they did right.

IF the Pens would take the series(fat chance) it'll definitely take seven games and they'll all be like last night's game.

Since both teams are undefeated at home (well, Detroit lost one, but it didn't really matter in the grand scheme of things), it's pretty hard to get a win on the road so it'll definitely go to seven if the Pens keep playing like they did last night.
The Pens were a little bit lucky last night though. The game-winning goal was simply because of Ozzy flopping around like he usually does when he's out of position.
