2008 NHL Playoffs - Round 1: Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Ottawa Senators Game 4 REVIEW
April 17th 2008 19:48
Senators out of playoffs as Penguins beat them for the fourth time, 3-1.
It's over for the Sens.
I wonder what Bryan Murray's gonna do with his overpaid squad now. Who leaves, who stays? Ray Emery has to go but I doubt that any team will want him since there will be other top-quality goaltenders going to free-agency such as Cristobal Huet and Josė Theodore. Wade Redden is definitely leaving, unless he takes a paycut. There will be question marks over several other players such as Gerber, Vermette, Spezza, and trade acquisitions Cory Stillman and Mike Commodore.
On to the game itself, well, what can I say? For once in this series, Ottawa showed up. They had intensity, character, the whole shebang. However, they were unlucky around Fleury's nets (they had one goal disallowed, and missed countless opportunities), Martin Gerber wasn't solid enough, and indiscipline, once again, reared its ugly head. The game was kept at 2-1 until Crosby scored an empty-netter. For the Sens, it was too little, too late.
Pittsburgh probably had the easiest round of its history. I mean, there are season games more intense than this! We'll see how they react with intense defense-first teams. So far, so good. The real test hasn't begun yet.
In other games, the Rangers beat the Devils 5-3. Once again, the Devils were hindered by their inability to score more than two/three goals a game. Rangers lead the series 3-1. Out West, the Preds beat the Wings 3-2. Their series is now even 2-2.
