2008 NHL Playoffs - Round 1: Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Ottawa Senators Game 3 REVIEW
April 15th 2008 18:54
Sens at the edge of cliff as the Penguins win Game 3 with the final score of 4-1.
I'm running out of adjectives to describe the Ottawa Senators. Dysfunctional, disorganized, hapless, listless, bored, crappy, shitty. Take your pick. It doesn't matter how you say it, the Sens simply suck. Last night they were, once again, dominated by a Pittsburgh team who wants to win more than anything. Martin Gerber was abandoned by his defense. Captain Alfredsson who was nowhere near 100% was the Sens' best player. Once again, they took bad penalties and it all went downhill from there.
But let's give some credit to the Penguins. They had a gameplan and they stuck to it even after being down 1-0 in the second period. They took advantage of all the open ice given to them by the Senators and profited from the Sens' defensive lapses. The Pens now have the chance to sweep the series, a nice revenge for their quick exit last year when they were eliminated by Ottawa.
On a slightly unrelated note, someone needs to tell the Senators organization that Spartan warriors and ice hockey don't match really well. For the pre-game ceremony, a Spartan look-alike representing the Sens' emblem, took center-ice to get the crowd pumped up. It was the weirdest stuff I've ever seen. To get an idea of the ridiculousness of the event, here are the Gazette's Mike Boone's thoughts on it. Like Mike says, Please tell me that the screaming gladiator on TV is one of my acid flashbacks.
In other games, the Minnesota Wild won in OT to take the lead in their series against the Colorado Avalanche (score: 2-1). The Wild now lead the Avs 2-1 in the series. The Predators finally defeated juggernaut the Detroit Red Wings with a score of 5-3. The Wings lead the series 2-1.
