2008 NHL Playoffs - Round 1: Montreal Canadiens vs. Boston Bruins Game 4 REVIEW
April 17th 2008 14:53
Brisebois unlikely hero as Habs shut out Bruins 1-0.
“I put my heart and my Sherwood on it. I just saw a hole and I went for it.” Those were Breezer's words after scoring the only goal in the fourth game of the series.
The two heroes of this game symbolize the present state of the Montreal Canadiens team which is a perfect balance between seasoned veterans and dedicated rookies. On the one hand, you've got Patrice Brisebois, a hardened veteran who raised Montreal's last Stanley Cup back in 1993, scoring the game-winning goal; on the other hand, you've got Carey Price, a 20-year-old rookie who was only 5 when the Habs won their last Cup. Price stopped all of the Bs' 27 shots and now sports an impressive 1.20 goals against average and a whopping 95.7% save percentage.
Game 4 was the best game of the series for the Canadiens (if you consider that the first game was a fluke). Everyone got to work. Mike Komisarek is regaining his synchronism; he and Milan Lucic seem to be having a personal battle along the boards. Streit is way better as a forward than as a defenseman. Sergei Kostitsyn seems to be taking a lot of penalties mainly caused by indiscipline. Kirk Muller should talk to him about that. Ryan O'Byrne did well for his first playoff game. Price was Price. In an attempt to give more room to Kovalev, Carbo had the Russian superstar playing on all four lines during the second period. The result was mixed. Kovy didn't get any real chances but the Bruins defense was completely disorganized trying to keep up with Carbo's lines changes.
Claude Julien's squad also played well. They missed countless opportunities. This is a team that needs a goalscorer because, otherwise, they don't score goals. But you have to give some credit to the Habs' defense who blocked shots and kept six Boston players from taking shots in the slot during the dying seconds of the game.
In other games, the Flyers stomped on the Capitals in the third game of their series, beating the Caps 6-3. the Flyers now lead the series 2-1. I won't be a posting a review of this game since I didn't actually see it. It was on at the same time as the Habs. In the Western Conference, the Avs destroyed the Wild by a score of 5-1. The series is tied 2-2. The Sharks defeated the Flames 3-2. The series is tied 2-2.
